About
When I joined the Army intelligence to avoid being drafted to Vietnam, I thought that was the worst thing that could happen to me, an easy-go-lucky, rebellious California kid. But the army experience opened up a whole new world of exotic locales, unique characters, fascinating cultures, colorful festivals and ancient religions. I always loved to read since I was bedridden with scarlet fever as a child. I also loved to tell stories. I courted my Hong Kong wife with English poetry, told imaginary children’s stories to my twins, and finished my first novel.
Flower Soldier is a semi-autobiographical story of a young soldier’s encounter with S.E. Asia. Chasing Rubies tells of what I imagined two characters I met in the army might do if they met each other in the teeming adventure of Burma.
Secret of the Son of Honor, my latest book, expresses a part of my love affair with Japan, and represents a labor of devotion to the culture I most feel attuned to.
I welcome you to step into my imaginary world and read these books.
